His novel, The Trouble with Cass, is his first piece of fiction. This Civil War-era murder mystery follows the incredible life of Cass Brooks, the 19 year old daughter of a wealthy builder in rural Indiana. Cass is a beautiful, intelligent, and resourceful young woman with few scruples, using her power, money, and charm to get what she wants – including her sister’s sweetheart. An underlying murder plot full of twists and turns develops, while the catastrophe of the Civil War shatters and changes the nation.
